Financial Aid/Scholarship Application

Merit Based Scholarship: Awarded because of a students previous success and achievement  in academic debate.  The standards for these scholarships are very high.  Only a small number of students receive these scholarships. To qualify for these scholarships a student must submit the following: 

a) A 1 page typed  letter explaining why the scholarship is deserved.

b) At least 1 letter of recommendation from a coach or former lab leader.

c) Comprehensive list of students achievements broken down by tournament and year.

 

Need Based Scholarship: Awarded based on a students demonstrated financial need.  While the GDI remains one of the most cost effective institutes in the nation, we understand that the cost can be a burden on many students families. We try to provide limited need based aid to all students who apply. To qualify for these scholarships a student must submit the following:

a) A 1 page letter from the students parents explaining the circumstances surrounding the request for need based aid.

Suggested but not required: Documentation of financial hardship (tax returns, medical expenses, letter from parents explaining circumstances, etc.)

 

Alumni Scholarship: Returning GDI alum are automatically awarded a scholarship totaling 10% of their total tuition/fees.

 

UDL Scholarship: Students in the Seattle and Tacoma UDL are eligible for tuition scholarships. Please indicate on your application if your school is affiliated with a UDL.

 

NOTE: Scholarship applications MUST accompany the students application for admission and deposit. All scholarship applications received without these materials will not be considered.  Deposits are non refundable.  Keep in mind...we do not award full scholarships.  90% of all scholarships are between $100- $400.  Please do not apply expecting to get a larger award.  

 

You will be notified of any financial aid award in your orientation materials. 

DEADLINE: The deadline to submit a scholarship application is May 1st, 2008
